The solution pump is what turns a tank of water into cleaning. It draws from the solution tank and pushes through the spray bar at roughly 100 PSI, which is the pressure that gets detergent down into the pile instead of laying it on top. Part number 32180 is the genuine Tacony 115V pump used across the MWH-800, Marathon 800, Marathon 1200 and Marathon 2000 self-contained extractors.

Before you buy one, be sure the pump is actually the problem, because three cheaper things produce the same symptom. A blocked in-line strainer starves it. Scaled or blocked spray tips stop the water at the other end. And a corroded connector on the pump circuit browns out the motor so it runs weak or not at all. Work through those in that order — strainer, tips, connector — and you will send a lot of healthy pumps back to the shelf.
When the pump itself has gone, the pattern is usually one of three. It hums but produces no flow, which is a seized or air-locked pump. It runs and sprays weakly with the strainer and tips clean, which is worn internals losing pressure past the diaphragm. Or it cycles rapidly on and off with the trigger closed, which is a failed pressure switch inside the head. None of those is worth a rebuild at this price point on a machine being used commercially.
What kills them is running dry and running scaled. A pump asked to pull from an empty tank cooks its own seals in a couple of minutes, and on a busy day that is an easy mistake to make twice. Hard water does the slower version of the same damage, building scale on the valves until the pump can no longer seat them. If your water is hard, flushing the solution side with clean water at the end of the day is the single cheapest thing you can do for pump life.
Fitting is straightforward. Unplug the machine at the wall first — this circuit runs at line voltage, not low voltage. Note the inlet and outlet orientation before the old pump comes off; they are not interchangeable and a pump plumbed backwards will run and move nothing. Use PTFE tape on the NPT threads and tighten to firm rather than hard, because these are plastic-bodied ports and a cracked fitting will weep solution onto wiring. Prime it by filling the solution tank and running with the spray open until the line clears of air.
While you have the machine open, look at the in-line strainer and the spray tips anyway. A new pump pushing through a restricted circuit works against itself and will not last as long as the one you just removed. The strainer is a few dollars and takes a minute.
One fleet note: this pump covers the 8-gallon and 12-gallon machines and the 20-gallon Marathon 2000, so a single spare on the shelf backs up a mixed fleet. A dead pump takes a machine out of service on the day rather than at the next service interval, so that is usually a spare worth holding.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Tornado machines does the pump 32180 fit?
It is used on the Tornado 98164 MWH-800 8-gallon self-contained extractor, the 98166 20″ Marathon 800, the 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained extractor, the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series and the 98190 22″ Marathon 2000. Call 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number if your machine is not on that list.
How do I know if the pump is bad and not something else?
Check the in-line strainer, the spray tips and the pump connector first — all three produce weak or no spray. If those are clean and the pump still hums without flow, sprays weakly, or cycles rapidly with the trigger closed, the pump itself has failed.
Why did my last pump fail so quickly?
Almost always running dry or hard-water scale. A pump pulling from an empty solution tank destroys its seals within minutes, and scale builds on the valves until they stop seating. Flushing the solution side with clean water at the end of each day is the cheapest way to extend pump life.
