Filter Cover B051-0114C

The Filter Cover (part# B051-0114C) retains the post-motor filter on the Tornado CK-LW 13/1 ProLite, models 97130 (115V) and 97131 (230V), and on the Powr-Flite PF62EC.

Its job is to hold the filter flat against its seat so that all of the exhaust air passes through the medium rather than around its edge. That sounds obvious and it is exactly what fails: a cover that no longer clamps evenly lets air take the shortest route, which is the gap at the rim, and the filter behind it stays clean-looking while doing nothing. It is one of the few faults where a spotless filter is evidence of a problem rather than of good maintenance.

Inspecting it

Check the cover clips or tabs for cracks and the sealing rim for flatness. A cover that needs pressure to clip home, or that springs slightly proud on one side, is not holding the filter evenly. Because it is opened at every filter change it takes more handling than most mouldings on the machine, and the tabs are usually where age shows first.

Fit a new foam filter, part number B015-0200, whenever the cover is replaced. If the old cover has been leaking, the filter behind it has been running unloaded and its fit against the seat is worth checking with the new cover in place.
