Top Motor Shroud B352-5400

$8.99

Genuine Tacony OEM top motor shroud, part number B352-5400, for Tornado Pac-Vac, CleanMax CMBP and Powr-Flite backpack vacuums. The rigid moulded cover over the motor — not the rubber motor mount (B352-1800).

The top motor shroud (part# B352-5400) is a genuine Tacony OEM replacement part compatible with multiple backpack vacuum models across the Tornado, CleanMax and Powr-Flite ranges. It is the rigid moulded cover that closes over the top of the motor, holding it in position and directing exhaust air along its intended path.

Compatible Models for the Top Motor Shroud

This part is a genuine Tacony OEM component shared across multiple brands and models:

Do not confuse this with the motor mount

Tacony uses very similar names for four different parts in the same area of the machine, and mixing them up is the most common ordering mistake on a backpack motor job:

  • B352-5400 — top motor shroud, the rigid moulded cover
  • B352-5300 — bottom motor shroud, the rigid moulded base
  • B352-1800 — top motor mount, the rubber cushion (also listed as top motor shroud seal)
  • B352-1900 — bottom motor mount, the rubber cushion (also listed as bottom motor shroud seal)

The shrouds are hard plastic housings. The mounts are soft rubber cushions. If you need the soft part, you want B352-1800 or B352-1900, not this one.

What the top motor shroud does

The shroud does three jobs at once. It clamps the motor down against its lower mount so the motor cannot shift under vibration. It forms part of the air path, keeping exhaust moving where the design intends rather than swirling inside the housing. And it isolates the motor mechanically, which is a large part of why a backpack vacuum is bearable to wear for a full shift.

Because it lives directly above a hot motor, the plastic is heat-cycled thousands of times over the machine’s life. Over years that makes it brittle, and brittle plastic cracks at the mounting points rather than in the middle.

When to replace the top motor shroud

Replace it if you find a crack anywhere in the moulding, if a mounting boss has broken or stripped, if the shroud no longer sits down evenly on the motor, or if the machine has developed a rattle or buzz that changes when you press on the motor housing.

Replace it too if the plastic has discoloured and gone chalky. That is heat damage, and a shroud in that condition will crack the next time it is disturbed even if it looks intact now — which usually means a second teardown a month later.

Since the motor has to come out to reach it, most technicians replace the top and bottom motor mounts (B352-1800 and B352-1900) at the same time. Those rubber cushions harden with the same heat and cost far less than a second strip-down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the top motor shroud (B352-5400) the same as the top motor mount (B352-1800)?

No. B352-5400 is the rigid plastic cover over the motor. B352-1800 is the soft rubber cushion the motor sits against, sometimes listed as the top motor shroud seal. They are different parts with confusingly similar names.

How do I know if my top motor shroud (part# B352-5400) needs replacing?

Cracks in the moulding, a broken or stripped mounting boss, a shroud that no longer sits evenly on the motor, a rattle that changes when you press on the housing, or plastic that has gone chalky and discoloured from heat.

What else should I replace while the motor is out?

The top and bottom motor mounts (B352-1800 and B352-1900). They harden with the same heat that ages the shroud, they are inexpensive, and reaching them requires the same teardown.
