This is the angle joint in the Tornado Tempest filter shaker. Tacony’s parts book names it Angle Joint and there is no separate dealer description for the number. It appears on both the filter and blower breakdown and the shaker assembly breakdown, because it is the part that joins the two.

What the Angle Joint Does

The shaker drive and the cleaning bar do not lie on the same line, so the linkage has to turn a corner. The angle joint is where that happens. It has to hold that angle accurately under a reversing load, because any movement in the joint comes straight off the cleaning bar’s stroke at the far end.

It sits between the shaker drive linkage and the filter cleaning bar, shown on both the Tempest filter and blower diagram and the shaker assembly diagram.

When to Replace It

Replace the joint when there is play in it, when it has been bent, or when the cleaning bar’s stroke has shortened and the rest of the linkage checks out sound. Because it appears on two sheets, it is easy to overlook when ordering — it is the same single part in both places.

Fitting Notes

Note the angle the joint is set to before removing it. Reassemble the linkage in its original relationship, then work it by hand through a full cycle and confirm the cleaning bar sweeps the whole face of the filter at both ends of travel.
