Tornado Tempest Push Handle K51284440

This is the push handle for the Tornado Tempest. Tacony’s dealer record names it Push Handle; the printed parts book calls the same number simply Handle. It is the operator’s whole interface with the machine, and it folds down for storage and transport.

What the Push Handle Does

The handle carries every input the operator gives the sweeper — pushing, pulling, and the twist of turning a 26 inch head — and transfers it into the chassis through the two handle brackets. It also sets working height, which matters: an operator working at the wrong handle height gets tired faster and tends to push down on the machine, which changes how the brushroll loads the carpet.

It mounts between the left and right handle brackets on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, secured by M8 x 25 screws with washers and clamped at working height by the yellow star grips.

When to Replace It

Replace a handle that is bent, cracked at a weld, or corroded through. Handles get caught on door frames and dropped off loading docks, and a bent handle throws the machine off line because it no longer sits square between the brackets. A crack at a weld will not get better and is worth acting on before it fails in service.

Fitting Notes

Support the handle as you release the star grips and M8 hardware so it does not drop. Fit the new handle loosely between both brackets, then tighten each side evenly so the handle is not pulled out of square. Fold it down and raise it a few times to confirm free movement, and check the star grips clamp it solidly at working height with no rocking.

No. K51284440 is the handle itself. The yellow star grips, M8 x 25 screws and washers are separate part numbers on the same diagram and transfer from the old handle if they are in good condition.

My handle will not stay at working height. Is the handle worn?

Not usually. That symptom almost always comes from the clamping hardware rather than the handle — worn star grips that no longer pull up tight, or worn pivot hardware in the brackets. Check those first, and inspect the bracket pivot holes for wear at the same time.
