Wire-Reinforced Vinyl Hose 1/4 in. 72697A
$2.99
Genuine OEM wire-reinforced vinyl hose, 1/4 in. (part# 72697A), for commercial carpet spotters and vapor misters — a shared part across Tornado and Powr-Flite machines as well as the PS Spotter 98220. It carries solution on the pressure side of the pump; the wire reinforcement stops it ballooning under pressure or kinking inside the housing. Plain tubing is not a substitute.
Genuine OEM wire-reinforced vinyl hose, 1/4 in. (part# 72697A), for commercial carpet spotters and vapor misters — a shared part fitted across Tornado and Powr-Flite machines as well as the PS Spotter 98220 (see the list below). The dealer catalog lists it as “Hose, 1/4 Vinyl Wire Reinforced”, and on the spotter it carries solution on the pressure side of the pump.

Why the reinforcement matters
This is the solution hose, and it sits downstream of the pump, so it is under pressure whenever the machine is spraying — around 55 PSI on this class of spotter. The wire reinforcement embedded in the wall is what lets a 1/4 inch vinyl hose hold that pressure without ballooning, and just as importantly what stops it kinking where it bends around the inside of a compact housing.
Both failure modes are worth understanding. A hose that balloons under pressure absorbs the pump’s output instead of delivering it, which shows up as a spray that is soft, or that lags behind the trigger and then dribbles after it is released. A hose that kinks shuts the flow off entirely at that one point, and because the kink is usually hidden inside the machine the operator reads it as a dead pump.
Plain unreinforced tubing of the same bore is not a substitute. It will fit the barbs and it will pass solution, and it will then do one or both of those things.
When to replace it
Replace the hose if it is split, cracked or weeping anywhere along its length, or at either fitting. Replace it if a section has gone soft and balloons visibly when the pump runs, if it has taken a permanent kink or flat spot, or if the wall has gone hard and crazed with age — vinyl stiffens over time and a stiff hose cracks at the next bend.
Check the ends specifically. The highest stress is where the hose is clamped onto a barb, and a hose can look perfect along its length while being split under the clamp. Any weep at a fitting that does not stop when the clamp is renewed means the hose end has gone.
A machine that has lost spray pressure with a pump that sounds normal, a clear jet and a clean filter, is a machine whose solution hose is worth looking at.
Fitting notes
Use new clamps rather than reusing the old ones — a one-ear crimp clamp is a single-use fastener and cannot be reliably re-crimped. Push the hose fully onto the barb, past its shoulder, before clamping. Route the new hose along the original path and check that nothing forces a tight bend as the housing closes, because a kink introduced at reassembly behaves exactly like a blocked jet. Run the pump and check every joint under pressure before closing up. Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing commercial floor-care equipment since 1956.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Wire-Reinforced Vinyl Hose 72697A do?
It carries cleaning solution on the pressure side of the pump, from the pump out towards the tool. The wire reinforcement lets a 1/4 inch vinyl hose hold working pressure without ballooning, and stops it kinking where it bends inside the housing.
Can I use plain vinyl tubing of the same size instead?
It will fit and it will pass solution, but it is not a substitute. Unreinforced tubing balloons under pressure, which softens the spray and makes it lag the trigger, or kinks inside the housing and shuts the flow off at a point you cannot see.
How do I know if the solution hose needs replacing?
Look for splits, cracks or weeping along the length and at both fittings, a section that balloons when the pump runs, a permanent kink or flat spot, or a wall that has gone hard and crazed. Check under the clamps specifically — a hose can look perfect along its length and be split where it grips the barb.
