This is the assembly that does the cleaning: the 26-inch roller brush (part# K47626420) agitates the carpet pile and throws debris into the hopper, driven by the brush motor (part# K66135760) through a V-ribbed belt (part# K63480580) and pulley. Around it sit the end plates that set brush alignment, the sealed bearings and gaskets that keep the chamber airtight, and the axle the whole roller turns on. Most complaints about a Tempest that has “lost suction” trace back to something on this sheet rather than to the vacuum side. My Tornado Tempest picks up loose dirt but leaves ground-in soil — what is wrong?
That is the signature of a worn roller brush (part# K47626420). The bristles have shortened and can no longer reach into the carpet pile to release the grit held down in it. Checking filters and seals will not bring that back.
The brushroll will not turn — is it the motor?
Not necessarily. Turn the brushroll by hand with the battery pack removed; it should spin freely. If it drags, the fault is mechanical — bearings (part# K44011980), wound fibre, or brush pressure set too heavy. If it spins freely, check the V-ribbed belt (part# K63480580) before the brush motor (part# K66135760).
One side of my sweeping path cleans worse than the other — why?
Usually one of the brushroll end plates (part# K50979420 right, part# K50979430 left) or a bent axle (part# K40409820). They are 26 inches apart, so a small distortion at one end becomes a visible difference in brush contact on that side.
My belts keep failing — what should I check?
The belt pulley (part# K56250390). As its grooves wear the belt sits deeper, grip falls and the belt slips and glazes. A new belt on a worn pulley fails again quickly, so inspect the pulley before fitting another belt.
What should I replace while the brushroll is apart?
The end gaskets (part# K50322020 and K50322010), the joint rings (part# K63634060) and the lock nuts (part# K73114250) — the nuts have nylon inserts and are single-use. All are inexpensive next to a second strip-down, and each one determines how long the bigger parts last.
