How an air-driven carpet tool works
A backpack vacuum has no beater bar, so every bit of its carpet performance comes from airflow and from how well the tool holds its gap above the pile. The lip is shaped to sit close enough to keep air velocity high at the fibres, but open enough that the tool does not seal itself to the carpet and stall the airflow entirely.
