Tornado Tank Frame Member 12″ 19220
$42.99
Genuine OEM 12-inch tank frame member (part# 19220) for Tornado Marathon 800 and Marathon 1200 carpet extractors. In stock in Crystal, MN. Call 763-535-0770.
This is the 12-inch member in the welded tank frame — the longer of the two cross sizes. Part number 19220 is the genuine OEM part for the Marathon 800 and Marathon 1200 extractors. The 11-inch member is a different part number, so measure rather than ordering by where it sat in the machine. It also fits the Tornado 98167 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractor (8 Gallon, 230V).

The longer member carries the wider span, which makes it the one most likely to have been overloaded. A span that is 12 inches instead of 11 flexes more under the same load, so where a frame has been repeatedly overfilled, dropped, or wheeled up steps with full tanks, this is often the first piece to show distress.
What that looks like in practice is a frame that has taken a set: the machine looks normal but the tanks no longer drop straight in, or one corner of the recovery tank sits proud. People often blame the tank at that point. Take the tank out and put a straight edge across the frame instead — if the frame is not flat, the tank was never the problem.
The second failure is corrosion, and this one is specific to an extractor. Detergent solution collects in the bottom of the frame cage and sits there between jobs, and a welded steel member standing in detergent corrodes from the inside of the weld outward. A member that looks sound but sounds dull when tapped, or that shows rust bleeding from a weld line, has been eaten from within.
Fit the replacement with the tanks out and the frame supported square. Do not tighten anything until the frame sits true, because a member fitted into a distorted cage locks the distortion in and the tanks will never seat properly afterwards. Check with a straight edge before and after.
While the tanks are out, look at the tank seating gaskets and the retaining bracket. All three live in the same place, all are inexpensive, and a frame put right under worn seating parts still leaks air at the lid.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Tornado machines does the 12-inch tank frame member 19220 fit?
It is used on the Tornado 98166 and 98167 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractors, the Tornado 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series. Call 763-535-0770 with your model number if you are not sure.
My recovery tank no longer sits flat — is it the tank or the frame?
Take the tank out and put a straight edge across the frame. If the frame is not flat, the tank was never the problem. A frame that has taken a set from being dropped or overloaded holds the tank proud at one corner, which then stops the lid gasket sealing evenly.
Why would a steel frame member fail on this machine?
Detergent solution collects in the bottom of the frame cage and sits there between jobs, and a welded member standing in detergent corrodes from inside the weld outward. A member that looks sound but sounds dull when tapped, or shows rust bleeding from a weld line, has been eaten from within.
