The Back Plate B352-7743 is the genuine Tacony OEM 10 quart back plate for Tornado and Powr-Flite backpack vacuums. It forms the rear wall of the bag compartment, sitting behind the bag and in front of the harness. It does three jobs at once: it closes the compartment so the airflow path stays sealed, it provides the flat face that the bag compartment seals press against, and it carries the mounting points that the harness frame bolts through — which means the whole weight of a loaded 10 quart machine passes through this one moulding.

That third job is what usually kills it. Cracks start at the harness mounting points and spread, especially on machines that have been dropped or carried by the harness with a full bag. A warped or bowed plate is the other failure: once the face is no longer flat the bag compartment seal cannot close evenly all the way round, air bypasses the bag, and suction falls off at the hose.
