The Power Cord Plug Cover X1042 is a genuine Tacony OEM replacement part compatible with corded Tornado and Powr-Flite backpack vacuums. It is the small moulded cover, supplied with its screws, that clamps over the cord entry on the back of the machine. Its job is strain relief: it locks the power cord into its socket so that every tug on a 50 foot cord is taken by the machine body rather than by the electrical connection inside. The cover is embossed REMOVE ONLY TO CHANGE CORD, which is exactly what it is for.
On a commercial backpack the cord gets pulled constantly — around door frames, under desks, and by operators who move by walking away from the outlet. The plug cover absorbs all of that. When it cracks, when a screw boss strips, or when the screws have been overtightened until the cover no longer clamps, the cord starts to move in its socket. That movement is what does the damage: a loose connection arcs, the contacts heat, and the socket burns out. Replacing a two-dollar cover is a great deal cheaper than replacing a cord socket or a switch harness, so change it as soon as you can move the cord by hand at the entry point.

Fitting the cover
The plug cover is reference 45 in the Tornado Pac-Vac 93012B parts book and is a straightforward job: unplug the machine, back out the two screws, lift the old cover off, seat the cord in the new one and screw it down. Tighten firmly but stop as soon as the cover is clamped — overtightening is what strips the bosses and is the most common reason a second cover is needed. If you are replacing the cover because the cord itself was damaged, fit a new yellow 50 foot cord (X9714) at the same time and inspect the receptacle and screw set (34864) while everything is apart. Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado and Powr-Flite equipment since 1956. Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Power Cord Plug Cover (part# X1042) do?
It is the moulded cover that clamps over the cord entry on the back of the machine, holding the power cord in its socket and taking the strain off the connection. It is embossed REMOVE ONLY TO CHANGE CORD – it is the part you take off to swap a damaged cord, and the part that stops the cord being pulled out of the machine in normal use.
How do I know if my Power Cord Plug Cover needs replacing?
Replace it if it is cracked, if a screw boss has stripped or broken so it will no longer clamp down, or if the cord moves in the socket when you tug it. A cover that no longer grips lets the cord work loose at the connection, which arcs, overheats and eventually kills the socket – a much more expensive repair than the cover.
Does the Power Cord Plug Cover come with screws?
Yes. X1042 is supplied as the cover with its mounting screws, which is how the factory parts book lists it.
What models is the Power Cord Plug Cover (part# X1042) compatible with?
Tornado Pac-Vac 6 Aircomfort 93012B and Pac-Vac 10 Aircomfort 93014B, and Powr-Flite Comfort Pro backpack vacuums BP6P, BP6S and BP10P. It is one Tacony part number across all of them.
