Genuine Tornado OEM stair tool with a 6-inch stainless steel head, rated to 800 p.s.i. (part# AA192.1). This is the narrow, high-pressure member of the stair-tool family: the small head gets into the riser-to-tread corner and along the nosing where a wide tool simply cannot reach, and the 800 p.s.i. rating is the highest of the Tornado stair tools, which is what lets it flush heavy soil out of a tightly woven stair carpet rather than just wetting it.
Why the 6-inch head and the 800 p.s.i. rating go together
A narrow head concentrates both the spray and the airflow over a small area. That is the point: on stairs the soil is in a strip at the front of the tread and in the corner behind it, not spread evenly. The high pressure rating matters because stairs are usually the most heavily soiled carpet in a building and the fibre is packed down hard. Do not read the 800 p.s.i. figure as a target, though — it is a ceiling, and the tool is only as capable as the pump and hose feeding it.
Choosing between the stair tools
If you are working narrow treads, nosings and corners and your machine can deliver real pressure, this is the tool. If you want to cover a wide tread in fewer passes, the 10-inch 500 p.s.i. tool (part# AA173.1) is the better choice. The 8-inch plastic-head tool (part# AA174.1) is the lighter-duty option at 120 p.s.i. All three use the standard 1-1/2 inch cuff.
When to replace it
Replace it when the glide edge has worn enough to drag on the carpet, when the jet no longer produces an even fan after cleaning, or when it weeps at the head under working pressure. A stainless head is hard to wear out; a tool that leaks early has almost always been run above its pressure rating.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 6-inch stair tool (part# AA192.1) used for?
Stairs and tight corners. The narrow 6-inch stainless head reaches the riser-to-tread corner and the nosing, where a wide tool cannot sit flat. It is rated to 800 p.s.i., the highest of the Tornado stair tools.
Which stair tool should I choose for my extractor?
Match the pressure rating to what your pump actually delivers, then pick the head width for the work. The 6-inch 800 p.s.i. tool (AA192.1) suits narrow treads and heavy soil, the 10-inch 500 p.s.i. tool (AA173.1) covers wide treads faster, and the 8-inch plastic-head 120 p.s.i. tool (AA174.1) is the lighter-duty option.
Does the 800 p.s.i. rating mean I should run it at 800 p.s.i.?
No. It is a maximum, not a target. The rating tells you the tool will not leak or distort up to that pressure. Running any tool above its rating makes it weep at the head long before it wears out, which is the most common way these are ruined.
