This sheet is a schematic rather than an exploded view, so the numbered bubbles point at positions in the circuit instead of at parts in a stack. The power cord enters at the top, runs to the power switch, and from the switch the circuit splits to the two loads the machine has: the pump and the motor, both labelled on the drawing. The dashed box around the middle is the machine housing; the earth symbol at the bottom is the ground path.
Most of the callouts are the connections rather than the components. Callout 3 is a closed-end crimp terminal, callout 8 a 1/4 inch female quick-disconnect, and callouts 5, 9, 10 and 11 are the four made-up leads — black, green, black and white — that join those points. Callout 6 is the power cord assembly itself and callout 4 the strain relief that clamps it where it passes through the housing, which the factory marks Not Shown. Callouts 1 and 2 are the lock washer and screw that hold the ground connection.
If you are chasing an intermittent fault, the leads and terminals on this sheet are the usual culprits, not the motor or the pump. A crimp that has worked loose, or a quick-disconnect that has lost its spring tension, produces a machine that runs, then stops, then runs again — and does it most when the hose is pulled and the housing flexes.
Two conventions in Tornado’s own table are worth knowing before you order. Rows marked * share a callout with the row above them — they are alternates for the same position, not extra parts, so order one of them and not both. Rows marked † are on the factory parts list but carry no bubble on the drawing, so there is nothing to click in the diagram for them.
Tornado 98225 Wiring Diagram Parts List
One note on the factory table. Callout 10 is printed by Tornado as a 6 AWG black lead, which would be an extraordinary gauge for a 12-inch jumper in a 15-amp machine; the 98220 book prints the same figure. We suspect 16 AWG and have asked, so the listing itself does not assert a gauge. Call 763-535-0770 if you need it confirmed before ordering.
Tornado 98225 Wiring Diagram Parts – Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Tornado 98225 wiring the same as the 98220?
On this section, yes. The Series D & E book lists the same callouts with the same part numbers as the standard spotter’s wiring sheet, including the same Not Shown note on the strain relief at callout 4. The drawings are the same artwork reproduced at a different size, so a lead, a terminal or the cord ordered from either page is the same part.
My spotter cuts out intermittently. What should I check first?
The connections on this sheet, not the motor or pump. A loosened crimp terminal or a quick-disconnect that has lost its spring tension gives you a machine that runs, stops and runs again, and it usually does it when the hose is pulled and the housing flexes. Work through callouts 3, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11 before you condemn anything expensive.
Is callout 10 really a 6 AWG lead?
We doubt it. Six-gauge wire is heavy welding-cable territory and would be a strange choice for a 12-inch jumper inside a 15-amp machine, but it is what Tornado prints in both this book and the 98220’s. We have raised it with them. Because of that the product listing does not state a gauge at all — call us before ordering if the gauge matters to you.
