What the Lock Washer, Foam does

The washer locks its fastener against the vibration a suction motor produces all day. That matters more than it sounds: a loose retainer lets a foam shift out of position, and a foam out of position leaves a gap that both raises noise and lets the motor move. This is one of those parts whose whole function is to stop something small from becoming something expensive.
