The control module (19214) is the heart of it, fed by the main wiring harness (32221) that the parts book lists for both the Marathon 800 and the Marathon 1200. Operator inputs run through the rocker switch (10670) and the 10-amp pushbutton momentary switch (19121); the 35-amp rectifier (X1193) and the 2.5-amp circuit breaker (X1192) handle conversion and protection. Power enters through the 25-foot 14/3 yellow power cord (32216), secured by the strain relief (19461) and the cable clamp (18717), and the cord hook (B352-6900) holds it when the machine is parked. Fasteners for the panel are the #10-24 x 7/16" screw (03660), the #10-32 x 5/8" screw (30436), the nylon #6-32 x 3/4" screw (19124), the nylon nut (17883) and the nut (19145). Frequently Asked Questions
What does the control module do on the Tornado 98166 Marathon 800?
The control module (19214) is the switching and logic board that routes power to the vacuum motor, brush motor and solution pump according to the panel switches. When a machine powers up but one function will not start, and the switch and breaker both test good, the module is the next thing to check.
My 98166 trips its breaker as soon as the brush starts. Where do I start?
Check the 2.5-amp circuit breaker (X1192) itself, then the main wiring harness (32221) for chafed insulation where it passes the chassis, then the brush motor. A breaker that trips on a specific function rather than at power-up usually points at that function’s motor or its leg of the harness, not at the panel.
The machine has no power at all. What is the first thing to test?
Test the 25-foot power cord (32216) and its strain relief (19461) at the panel entry — cord failures at the strain relief are the single most common no-power cause on a machine that gets dragged across job sites. Then the rocker switch (10670), then the 35-amp rectifier (X1193).
Why are two cords listed as Not Shown on this page?
The factory sheet lists the 50-foot 14/3 yellow extension cord (32217) and the 50-foot 230V EU-plug power cord (31070) as Not Shown — they belong to this section but carry no callout on the drawing. The 230V cord is the European-market cord; North American machines use the 25-foot cord (32216).
