Choosing Powr-Flite Floor Machines & Burnishers

Powr-Flite floor machines and burnishers handle the two ends of hard-floor maintenance — the aggressive prep work and the high-gloss finish. Knowing which one you need comes down to speed: low-RPM Powr-Flite floor machines apply torque to scrub, strip, and prep, while high-RPM burnishers apply friction to polish.

The Millennium Floor Machine 17″ (NM171HD) is a low-speed (175 RPM) rotary machine with a 1.5 HP motor and a triple-planetary drive. At 109 lb, it’s a workhorse for scrubbing, stripping old finish, deep-cleaning, bonneting, and light surface prep with the right pad or brush. It’s the machine you reach for to get a floor clean and ready — it applies power, not shine.

The Millennium Edition Dust-Control Burnisher 2000 RPM (NM2000DC) is the opposite job: a high-speed (2,000 RPM) belt-drive burnisher with a 20-inch pad and 16 lb of pad pressure that produces a wet-look, high-gloss polish on finished floors — around 26,000 sq ft/hr. Its dust-control skirt captures pad dust during burnishing, which makes it well suited to occupied or dust-sensitive buildings, and it runs on a long 75-foot cord.

A complete program often uses both: strip and scrub with the NM171HD, apply finish, then maintain the shine with the NM2000DC. Pads and brushes for both — scrubbing, stripping, polishing, and burnishing — are in our Powr-Flite parts catalog. Twin City Vacuum has sold and serviced Powr-Flite floor machines since 1956. Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a floor machine and a burnisher?

A floor machine like the NM171HD runs at low speed (175 RPM) to scrub, strip, and prep floors — it applies torque. A burnisher like the NM2000DC runs at high speed (2,000 RPM) to polish finished floors to a high gloss — it applies friction and heat. Use the floor machine to clean and the burnisher to shine.

What does the dust-control feature on the NM2000DC do?

The NM2000DC’s dust-control skirt captures pad dust generated during high-speed burnishing, keeping it out of the air. That makes it a good fit for occupied buildings, healthcare, and other dust-sensitive environments. It burnishes a 20″ path at 2,000 RPM with 16 lb of pad pressure.

Can the NM171HD floor machine strip floors?

Yes. With a stripping pad, the low-speed 175 RPM NM171HD and its 1.5 HP triple-planetary drive are well suited to removing old floor finish, as well as scrubbing and deep cleaning. Its 109 lb weight adds the down-pressure that aggressive stripping needs.

Do these machines include a pad driver?

The pad driver is selected separately so you get the correct size and type for your pads. We stock pad drivers, brushes, and the full range of scrubbing, stripping, and burnishing pads — call 763-535-0770 and we’ll match them to your machine and floors.
