Tornado Hose Clamp Lined 1-1/4″ to 2″ 16091

$5.99

Genuine OEM lined screw hose clamp, 1-1/4 to 2 inch range (part# 16091), for Tornado carpet extractors including the 98168 Marathon 1200. In stock in Crystal, MN. Call 763-535-0770.

Lined is the specification that matters here. A lined clamp has a smooth band behind the perforated screw track, so the band grips the hose evenly instead of pressing the slots into it. Part number 16091 is the genuine OEM lined clamp with a 1-1/4 to 2 inch range. It also fits the Tornado 98166 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractor (8 Gallon, 115V). It also fits the Tornado 98167 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractor (8 Gallon, 230V).

An unlined clamp of the same size will fit and will appear to work. What it does over time is emboss the hose with the pattern of its own slots, and each of those impressions is a stress concentration. On a vacuum hose under suction, the wall then starts to deform inward at the slot marks, and on a solution hose under pressure it eventually splits along one of them. That is the difference the lining buys.

Range matters as much as type. A clamp used near the bottom of its range has very little band left inside the housing and can pull through under load; one used at the very top has the band barely engaged in the screw track. Choose a clamp whose range puts your diameter comfortably in the middle.

Position it on the barb or cuff rather than on bare hose. A clamp tightened on unsupported hose crushes the bore and creates exactly the restriction you are trying to avoid, and it will not seal reliably because there is nothing rigid behind the hose to seal against.

Firm, not maximum. Over-tightening a screw clamp cuts into the hose and causes the split it was meant to prevent; the band should just stop the hose turning on its barb by hand.

Replace a clamp whose screw slot is rounded or whose band shows rust at the perforations — both mean it will not tighten reliably next time, and both are cheaper to fix now than mid-job.

Frequently Asked Questions

What machines does the hose clamp 16091 fit?

It is fitted to the Tornado 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained carpet extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series, and it is shared across many other machines. Call 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number and we will confirm fitment before you order It also fits the Tornado 98167 Marathon 800 (8 Gallon, 230V).

Why does the clamp need to be lined?

Because an unlined clamp presses its own slot pattern into the hose, and each impression is a stress concentration. On a vacuum hose the wall then deforms inward at those marks; on a solution hose it eventually splits along one. The smooth liner spreads the grip evenly instead.

Where should the clamp sit on the hose?

On the barb or the cuff, never on unsupported hose. A clamp tightened on bare hose crushes the bore, creating the restriction you were trying to avoid, and it cannot seal reliably because there is nothing rigid behind the hose to seal against.
