Manifolds fail by filling up rather than by breaking. Hard water and detergent leave scale inside the bore, and because the bore is not uniform — it has to step down as it feeds each tip — the scale builds unevenly. The result is a spray pattern that is strong at one end and weak at the other, which the operator reads as streaking or as one side of the path drying slower.
