The bearing block is the housing that holds the brush bearing and bolts it to the machine. It sets where the bearing sits and how square it runs, which makes it the part that decides whether a bearing lasts five years or five months. Part number 19157 is the genuine OEM brush bearing block, used widely across the same range.

Blocks fail at the bore. A bearing that has been allowed to spin in its housing — because it was loose, or because the block was already worn — polishes and then enlarges the bore, and after that no new bearing will be held square. The tell is a bearing outer race that turns in the block when you try it by hand, or a bore with a bright, burnished band around it.

The second failure is cracking at a mounting ear. These blocks carry the load of a brush being pushed into carpet all day, and a block that has been shocked — a machine dropped, a brush jammed hard — can crack at the fixing without anything else looking wrong. Clean the area and inspect around the fixing holes specifically.

What kills blocks slowly is debris. String and carpet fibre pack into the block around the bearing, hold water against it, and act as an abrasive every revolution. A machine whose brush cover plate is bent or missing loads this area with far more debris than it was designed to see, and the bearings and blocks then fail at a rate that looks inexplicable until someone checks the plate.

Replace the bearing and seal whenever you replace the block, and check the shaft journal while everything is apart. A new block around a rough bearing, or a good bearing on a scored shaft, brings the fault straight back — and all three are reachable only during this one job.

Fit with the machine unplugged, tipped and supported. Clean the mounting face and the bore, seat the bearing fully and squarely, and turn the shaft by hand through a full revolution before the belt goes on. Anything that binds or feels notchy by hand will not improve under power.

Frequently Asked Questions

What machines does the brush bearing block 19157 fit?

It is fitted to the Tornado 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained carpet extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series, and it is shared across many other machines. Call 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number and we will confirm fitment before you order.

How do I know the bearing block itself is worn?

Try the bearing outer race by hand: if it turns in the block, the bore has enlarged and no new bearing will be held square. A bright burnished band around the bore says the same thing. Also check around the mounting holes for cracks, which is where a shocked block gives way.

My brush bearings keep failing — is the block why?

It is one of two likely causes. Either the bore has worn so the bearing is held out of line, or debris is reaching the block because the brush cover plate is bent or missing. Check both — string and fibre packed around a bearing hold water against it and act as an abrasive every revolution.
