The Tornado Aluminum Coupler 3/8″ NPT x 1.41″ (part# 32177) is the genuine OEM fitting that joins two threaded runs of the solution circuit on Tornado carpet extractors. It is aluminium and 1.41 inches long, which matters more than it sounds: a shorter generic coupler leaves too few threads engaged at one end, and on a 100 PSI circuit that is where the next leak starts.

Couplers leak for two reasons and it is worth telling them apart before ordering. The first is tired sealant on threads that are otherwise sound — the joint weeps only under pressure, stops when the pump stops, and cleans up with fresh tape or paste. The second is galling: aluminium threads that have been assembled and broken too many times, or cross-threaded once, pick up and will never seal again no matter what you wrap them in. Back the fitting out and look at the threads; galled aluminium is unmistakable, bright and torn.
Replace rather than persist. A coupler is inexpensive and a solution leak inside the chassis does not stay a solution leak — detergent finds electrical connections and corrodes terminals long before anyone notices a damp patch.
On fitting, relieve pressure first and do not over-tighten. Aluminium into aluminium wants firm, not heroic: two or three turns past hand-tight with sealant on the male thread. Over-torquing is what causes the galling that brings the same fitting back a second time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Aluminum Coupler 3/8″ NPT (part# 32177) do on a Tornado extractor?
It joins two threaded runs of the pressurised solution circuit. The 1.41-inch length gives full thread engagement at both ends, which a shorter generic coupler will not.
How do I know if my coupler needs replacing rather than resealing?
Back it out and look at the threads. A joint that only weeps under pressure on sound threads just needs fresh sealant. Threads that look bright and torn are galled aluminium — they will never seal again and the fitting must be replaced.
