The Stretch Hose J1005 is a genuine Tacony OEM 1-1/2 inch by 2 foot flexible hose with a 90 degree cuff, used across Tornado and Powr-Flite backpack vacuums. It is the short connecting hose between the machine inlet and the wand or tool. The 90 degree cuff is what makes it work: it takes the connection through a right angle so the hose leaves the inlet cleanly rather than kinking back against the operator, and the stretch construction lets it extend and recover as they reach and move.
It is also the single most common cause of a backpack that has quietly lost its suction. Because the hose flexes on every stroke and gets stood on, dragged round door frames and pulled at an angle by the cuff, it work-hardens and eventually opens up — sometimes as an obvious tear, more often as a pinhole or a cuff that no longer seals. The result is air entering the system downstream of the bag and filter, so the machine sounds normal but picks up badly and no amount of new bags or clean filters fixes it. The test takes ten seconds: run the machine and pass your hand slowly along the hose and around the cuff, feeling for escaping air. Replace the hose when you find a leak, when it will not recover its shape after stretching, or when the cuff is loose or split.

Fitting and looking after it
Push the cuff fully home at the inlet and give it a twist to seat it — a cuff that is only half on is the leak you will spend an afternoon looking for. When storing the machine, coil the hose rather than folding it, and never hang the machine by the hose; both habits are what turn a two-year hose into a one-year hose. If you also do detail and above-floor work, the rigid J1006 hose holds its shape where this one flexes, and many operators keep one of each. Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado and Powr-Flite equipment since 1956. Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Stretch Hose (part# J1005) do?
It is the short 1-1/2 inch flexible hose with a 90 degree cuff that connects the wand or tool to the machine inlet. The 90 degree cuff is the point: it turns the connection through a right angle so the hose leaves the inlet cleanly instead of kinking against the operator’s body, and the stretch construction lets it extend and recover as they move.
How do I know if my Stretch Hose needs replacing?
Run your hand along it with the machine running and feel for air escaping – that is the definitive test. Also replace it when it will no longer recover its shape after stretching, when the cuff has gone loose or split so it no longer seals at the inlet, or when there is any visible tear. A leaking hose costs suction at every tool downstream, which is why it is one of the first things to check on a machine that has gone weak.
What models is the Stretch Hose (part# J1005) compatible with?
Tornado Pac-Vac 6 Aircomfort 93012B, Pac-Vac 10 Aircomfort 93014B, and Pac-Vac 6 Roam 93016, 93016B-1 and 93016C-1; and Powr-Flite Comfort Pro backpacks BP6P and BP10P plus the Comfort Pro Freedom CPF6P-1C.
What is the difference between the J1005 stretch hose and the J1006 rigid hose?
Length and behaviour. J1005 is the 1-1/2 inch by 2 foot stretch hose with a 90 degree cuff and gives freedom of movement for general work. J1006 is the 1-1/2 inch by 4 foot rigid hose with a 90 degree cuff and holds its shape, which suits detail and above-floor work where you want the hose to stay where you put it. Plenty of operators keep both.
