Tornado Spotter Recovery Tank – 19491Find genuine Tornado 98220 recovery tank replacement parts for the PS Series professional spotter, Model 98220. This sheet covers the 2 gallon recovery tank 19491 itself and everything inside it: the intake stack tube 19510 that carries air up to the vacuum motor, the cork float 19911 and stainless shut-off flapper 19906 that close that stack before water can reach the motor, the nylon screw 19912, lock nut 19913 and washer 19914 that carry the float, and the deflector X2530 with its gasket X2532 that turns the incoming stream so the water drops out. The seals are here too — vacuum motor gasket 19518, vacuum stack gasket 19519, solution tank gasket 19610 and closed cell foam gasket 19916 — along with the steel supported vacuum hose 30735, the clear plastic utility tool 30857, the crimp clamp X2165, braided hose 71817A, hose barb 7AT003 and quick-disconnect coupler PX6. If the machine sounds normal but leaves the carpet wet, the cause is almost always one of the gaskets on this page rather than the vacuum motor. Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956. Call 763-535-0770 or stop by 5415 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55428.

Tornado 98220 Recovery Tank Parts – Frequently Asked Questions
How does the recovery tank shut off on the Tornado 98220?
Water and air arrive together up the hose. The deflector X2530 turns and slows that stream so the water drops out into the tank while the air carries on up the intake stack tube 19510. As the tank fills, the cork float 19911 rises and lifts the stainless flapper 19906 against the top of the stack, sealing it and cutting the airflow before water can reach the vacuum motor. Suction dropping away suddenly on a full tank is that system working, not a fault.
My Tornado 98220 sounds normal but will not pick up water — what should I check?
Work through the seals before suspecting the motor. Check the closed cell foam gasket 19916 at the tank face, the vacuum motor gasket 19518 and the vacuum stack gasket 19519. A leak at any of those lets the motor draw air from inside the machine instead of through the tool, so it still moves the same volume of air and still sounds right while recovery drops away. After the gaskets, check the steel supported hose 30735 for splits and the utility tool 30857 for a worn sealing lip.
Which gasket do I need — there are four listed?
They are not interchangeable, so order by part number. 19916 is the 3/16 in. closed cell foam gasket at the tank, 19518 seals the vacuum motor to its mounting face, 19519 seals the vacuum stack, X2532 seals the deflector, and 19610 is the solution tank gasket. If you are matching one you have already removed, call us at 763-535-0770 and we will identify it.
I found water in the vacuum motor housing — what caused it?
Something in the shut-off chain failed. Inspect the cork float 19911 (drop it in clean water — a waterlogged one sits low or sinks), the flapper 19906 for warping, the intake stack tube 19510 for cracks or distortion, and the deflector X2530 for damage. Fitting a new motor without finding the cause means the new one will take water as well.
