Nylon fittings fail in ways metal ones do not, and knowing the difference saves replacing the wrong part. The first is a stress crack around the stem, usually invisible until you flex the fitting, caused by a hose pulled taut instead of routed with slack. The second is a stretched thread from over-tightening — nylon into metal has one good assembly in it, and a fitting that has been nipped up hard twice will seep for the rest of its life.
