Frequently Asked Questions
My 98168 has lost suction — where do I start?
Check the 2″ x 38″ steel supported hose and both of its clamps before you touch the motor. These hoses crack where they flex at the cuff, and a loose clamp at the exhaust hose fitting will bleed off enough vacuum to make a healthy motor feel weak.
How do I know the solution pump is failing?
A tired 115V 100 PSI pump still runs but sprays a narrow, weak fan, and it often gets noticeably louder before it quits. If the spray pattern is poor but the pump sounds normal, check the nylon quick-disconnect and the tips first — a restriction upstream mimics a failing pump.
The shroud will not stay latched. What do I replace?
Usually the spring, not the bracket. The shroud latch spring loses tension long before the bracket wears. Replace the spring first, and only replace the shroud latch bracket if the bracket itself is bent or the pivot hole has elongated.
Are the fasteners on this diagram standard hardware?
They are standard Tacony hardware and the same sizes appear on other Tornado machines, so the part numbers are shared. Order by the part number shown in the table below, and if you are unsure which of the two chassis diagrams your part is on, call 763-535-0770.
Browse every assembly for this machine on the Tornado 98168 parts hub, or call 763-535-0770 and we will identify your part from the serial number. Twin City Vacuum, 5415 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55428.
