Tornado 98166 Control Panel Parts

Control panel parts for the Tornado 98166 Marathon 800. Everything the operator touches to run the machine is here — the switches, the panel they sit in, and the wiring terminals behind them.

What is in the Tornado 98166 control panel

Seventeen items make up this section. The switches include momentary pushbutton switches and the main control switches, mounted through the control panel moulding. Behind them sit terminals, a strain relief for the incoming cord, and the screws and nuts that hold the panel to the machine. Two items are listed as not shown on the drawing but belong to the assembly.

Which series does this fit?

These parts come from the current Series F parts book for the Marathon 800. Older Series B through Series E machines are built with different assemblies — not simply different part numbers — so an early machine may not take what is listed here. Call 763-535-0770 with your serial number and we will confirm before you order.

Diagnosing a control panel fault

A switch that has failed usually fails open — the function simply does nothing while the rest of the machine runs. A switch that has failed mechanically will feel different under the thumb: soft, gritty, or not returning. Before replacing a switch, check the terminals behind it; a spade terminal that has backed off its tab produces exactly the same symptom as a dead switch and costs nothing to re-seat. The electrical and wiring diagram section for this machine shows how the panel is wired.

Is this the same panel as the 115-volt Marathon 1200?

The switches and terminals are largely shared across the Marathon family, but the panel moulding and the wiring behind it are specific to the machine and its voltage. Do not assume a panel part from a 230-volt machine fits this one. Each part page lists the machines we have confirmed.

Replacing panel parts safely

Unplug the machine before opening the panel and photograph the wiring before disconnecting anything — the terminals are not all unique and a swapped pair is easy to create and hard to find. If you would rather not work inside the panel, bring the machine to 5415 West Broadway and we will do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The switches on my Tornado 98166 are not responding — where do I start?

Check that the machine is getting power at all, then the cord and plug, then the switch itself. A switch that feels mushy or stays depressed has usually failed mechanically rather than electrically. If several controls went at once, suspect the supply or the wiring behind the panel rather than the switches.

Can I replace a single switch, or do I need the whole panel?

Individual switches and indicators are listed separately, so you can replace just the one that failed. The complete control panel assembly, part 30972, is also available if the panel itself is cracked or several controls have gone — which is often the cheaper route once you count the labour.

Where is the control panel on the Tornado 98166?

At the operator position on the handle, where the solution, brush and vacuum controls sit together. Because it is the part the operator touches every shift, it takes more wear than its parts count suggests.

How do I order Tornado 98166 control panel parts or get help choosing?

Add the part you need to your cart from its own page, or call us at 763-535-0770 and we will confirm it against your machine first. Our staff at 5415 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55428 has been servicing floor-care equipment since 1956, and if you have your serial number handy we can check it before anything ships.
