The Tornado Gasket (part# 32512) is the genuine OEM seal used at the brush and spray head of Tornado self-contained carpet extractors. It is one of only two parts on this machine family that genuinely changed between production series: earlier machines used gasket 31425, and 32512 is the later part. If you are ordering for an older machine, check which one your unit has before you order, or call us with the serial number and we will check it for you.

A gasket at the brush head has one job: hold the seal between the shroud and the surface it mounts to, so the vacuum path pulls from the carpet rather than from the surrounding air. When it hardens, flattens or tears, the machine does not fail dramatically — it just cleans worse. The usual complaint is carpet left wetter than it used to be, or a machine that picks up well on one side and poorly on the other.

That asymmetry is the tell. A flat spot in the gasket lets the shroud sit a fraction low on one side, and the resulting air leak costs more lift than a tired vacuum motor does. Before condemning the motor on a machine that seems weak, pull the shroud and look at this gasket: if it has taken a permanent set, has hardened past the point of springing back, or shows a split anywhere along its run, replace it. It is inexpensive and it is the cheapest possible fix for a poor-pickup complaint.

Fit it dry and clean. Scrape the old gasket material and adhesive off the mating face completely — a new gasket laid over old residue will not seat evenly and will fail early in the same place. Seat the shroud without over-tightening; crushing a fresh gasket flat on assembly defeats the point of replacing it.

Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956 and orders directly from the manufacturer, so we can tell you whether your serial number takes this gasket or the earlier 31425. Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Gasket (part# 32512) do on a Tornado Marathon extractor?

It seals the brush and spray head so the vacuum path pulls through the carpet instead of drawing air around the shroud. A sound gasket is what lets the machine lift water in a single pass.

How do I know if my brush-head Gasket needs replacing?

The classic sign is carpet left wetter than normal, or uneven pickup side to side. Pull the shroud and check the gasket for a permanent flat spot, hardening, or a split. Any of those means replace — and do it before suspecting the vacuum motor, because an air leak here costs more lift than a worn motor.
