A truss head is the wide, low, domed head — noticeably broader than a pan head and much flatter than a round one. Part number 06192 is the genuine OEM Phillips truss head screw, 1/4-20 by 1/2 inch, zinc plated. Note the head style: this machine also uses a hex head stainless screw of exactly the same thread and length under a different number. It also fits the Tornado 98166 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractor (8 Gallon, 115V). It also fits the Tornado 98167 20″ Marathon 800 carpet extractor (8 Gallon, 230V).

The wide head is the whole point. It spreads clamping load over a large area, which is what you want through thin sheet or a soft panel where a normal head would pull through or dish the material. Substituting a standard hex or pan head in one of these positions concentrates the load on a much smaller circle and the panel deforms around it over time.

It also sits low, so it does not foul anything passing over it. Where a truss head is specified on a panel that something slides across or seats against, a taller head is not a cosmetic difference — it is an interference.

Zinc plating is the corrosion barrier and it is thin. A screw whose plating has been scraped through by a poorly fitting driver, or that shows rust spots, has lost that protection and will corrode into its thread. On a machine carrying detergent over every fastener, that is the difference between a screw that comes out at the next service and one that shears.

Order by part number rather than by size. Anyone working from a diagram sees the same nominal 1/4-20 x 1/2 inch for two different screws. If you are not sure which you are holding, look at the head: a wide shallow dome with a cross recess is this one.

Fit with a driver that fills the recess properly and stop at firm. A Phillips recess cams out at high torque by design, which protects the thread and chews the recess if you keep pushing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What machines does the screw 06192 fit?

Call 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number and we will confirm fitment before you order It also fits the Tornado 98167 Marathon 800 (8 Gallon, 230V).

What is a truss head and why does it matter?

It is the wide, low, domed head — broader than a pan head and flatter than a round one. The width spreads clamping load over a large area, which is what thin sheet or a soft panel needs. A narrower head in the same position concentrates the load and the panel dishes around it over time.

How is 06192 different from the other 1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw?

Head style and material. 06192 is a zinc-plated Phillips truss head; the other is a hex head cap screw in stainless. Same thread, same length, different part numbers. If you are unsure which you are holding, a wide shallow dome with a cross recess is this one.
