The brush roller is the part that does the mechanical half of the cleaning. Solution loosens the soil chemically; the brush works it through the pile so the solution reaches the fibre rather than sitting on the tips. Part number 19159 is the genuine OEM 17-inch carpet brush roller for the MWH-800, Marathon 800 and Marathon 1200 extractors.

Brushes wear out quietly, which is why they are the most commonly overlooked part on an extractor. The bristles do not break; they shorten and soften. A worn brush still turns at the right speed, still sounds correct, and skates across the pile doing very little. The machine appears to be working and the carpet comes up wet but no cleaner. If your results have drifted downward over months with no single event to blame, look at the brush first.
Measure rather than eyeball. Compare the bristle length at the ends of the roller with the middle: the middle wears fastest because that is where most of the load sits, and a roller that has lost noticeable height in the centre has passed the point where it does useful work. Bristles that splay outward instead of standing up, or that have taken a permanent set in one direction, are also finished.
Two things kill a brush early. Running it on hard floor or over a transition strip abrades the tips far faster than carpet does. And leaving the machine parked on its brush overnight puts a flat in the bristles that never fully recovers — store the machine on its wheels or tipped back off the brush.
When the brush is out, clean and inspect the parts around it. String and carpet fibre wrap the shaft ends and pack into the bearing blocks, and a bearing that has been running through packed debris is on its way out. Turn the shaft by hand and feel for roughness. Check the drive belt while you are there: a new brush against a tired belt is a repeat visit.
Fitting is simple — unplug the machine, tip it back, release the bearing blocks, slide the old roller out and the new one in the same orientation. Make sure the drive end seats fully into its pulley and the belt sits square in its teeth before putting the machine back on its wheels.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Tornado machines does the brush roller 19159 fit?
It is used on the Tornado 98164 MWH-800 8-gallon self-contained extractor, the 98166 and 98167 20″ Marathon 800, the 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series. Call 763-535-0770 with your model number if you are not sure.
How do I know the brush is worn if it still turns?
Compare bristle length in the middle of the roller against the ends. The middle carries most of the load and wears fastest, so a roller that has lost visible height in the centre is no longer working the pile. Bristles that splay outward or have taken a permanent set in one direction are also finished.
What makes a brush wear out early?
Running it across hard floor or over transition strips abrades the tips far faster than carpet does, and parking the machine down on its brush overnight puts a flat in the bristles that never fully recovers. Store the machine on its wheels or tipped back off the brush.
